For such a small city, Ohrid has a lot to offer. We've already written about the lakeside promenade, the churches, the hiking, the traditional crafts, and the fortress, but we've barely scratched the surface. Here are some more of our favorite sights from Ohrid.
For four days in July, the central Macedonian town of Prilep is taken over by Pivofest: an annual celebration of beer which has become the nation's biggest festival. It's not exactly the most traditional event on the calendar, but that wasn't going to deter us from attending. We're talking about a giant beer party, after all. Tradition can wait.
Toše Proeski is easily the biggest pop star in Macedonia's history, having racked up a string of number one hits between 1999 and his untimely death in 2007. He was raised in the town of Kruševo, where his memory is kept alive with statues, street art and an unbelievable museum.
